Biography

Dr. Scott Meredith is an accomplished trumpet artist and educator based in ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City, where he serves as Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City University. He brings over 25 years of university-level teaching experience and a diverse performance background to his role, contributing to both the academic and professional musical communities.

Dr. Meredith currently holds the position of Principal Trumpet with the Olympia Symphony, Lake Chelan Bach Festival, and Wyoming Symphony. He has previously served as Principal Trumpet of the Port Angeles Symphony, Seattle Collaborative Orchestra, Vashon Opera, and Bellevue Symphony, as well as Third/Assistant Principal Trumpet with Symphony Tacoma. His performance engagements also include regular appearances with the Seattle Symphony, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Auburn Symphony, Yakima Symphony, Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, and North Corner Chamber Orchestra. Nationally, he has performed with the Boulder Philharmonic, Cheyenne Symphony, Fort Collins Symphony, Greeley Philharmonic, Owensboro Symphony, Oregon East Symphony, Bozeman Symphony, Billings Symphony, San Angelo Symphony, Dallas Wind Symphony, North Carolina Pops, and others.

As an educator, Dr. Meredith has taught at the University of Wyoming, University of Northern Colorado, and University of North Texas. His teaching has included applied trumpet lessons for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as courses in orchestral excerpts, jazz history, and Romantic music history. He maintains a strong commitment to music education beyond the university setting, working privately with students of all ages and coaching brass sections at several Seattle-area high schools. He has also contributed to youth orchestras in Denver, Seattle, Bellevue, and with the Kitsap Philharmonic.

Dr. Meredith is an active presenter and clinician. He has presented at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, Wyoming Music Educators Conference, Washington Music Educators Conference, and many regional trumpet festivals and workshops. He has been published in the International Trumpet Guild Journal and served as Orchestral Excerpts Competition Chair for the International Trumpet Guild.

He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of North Texas, as well as dual Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education and Performance from the University of Northern Colorado.

Dr. Meredith’s discography includes the premiere recording of Jennifer Higdon’s Trumpet Songs on the album Chamber Music of Jennifer Higdon, which received praise from Fanfare Magazine for his β€œgorgeous tone and sense of phrasing.” He is also featured on the Teaching Music through Performance in Band series and multiple recordings with the University of North Texas Wind Symphony under the direction of Eugene Corporon, as part of the Klavier Wind Project.

Outside of music, Dr. Meredith enjoys watching movies (especially Star Wars), cycling, and exploring both ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City and the Pacific Northwest. He especially enjoys spending time with his daughter, Kat, and his fearless cat, Thor. Dr. Meredith is proud to be a Bach Artist with the Conn Selmer Company.
